Ah yes, the way it was meant to be.
I'm having a quiet and sophisticated blog-by-the-pool right this second: just me, this here netbook, some Reese's peanut butter cups and Stephanie Plum. I'm on vacation and the sweet nectar of life is slowly returning to my lips.
LA is not what I expected. I guess I thought that it would be busier somehow, more crowded, but driving down Sunset Boulevard I felt like I was in a really big vacation town with bad traffic. Or Pretoria. No I'm serious. Lots of trees abound, even Jacarandas. Ofcourse its not exactly like Pretoria. The people here are much better looking, there are the tallest palm trees you've ever clapped eyes on and way too many mazeratis, porsches and Bentleys to think of this place as anything other than LA. Women are stick thin and sickeningly good looking and from what I can gather dating in this town is more of a transaction than anything else. But still, LA feels a little bit like visiting Pretoria. Its hot and dry, and all the non-sculpted natural environments look like they could really do with some water. I can understand how South Africans could come here to stay.
My initial plan was to stay in LA for only 4 or 5 days. Now that I'm here, I'm thinking I could get used to it. My host has offered me to stay till I figure things out, which helps alot. Transport might prove to be problematic though. Their system is nowhere near as sophisticated and elaborate as some of the other places where I've been. That was the joy of SF - you could take the BART anywhere. Having said that there are some public transport options - I just need to still figure it out.
No matter how much I worry, things always have a way of working themselves out if I hang in there long enough.
