My friend Roxanne knows me best.
She is a South African who grew up in America, and she says I won't enjoy Hawaii.
I know. Who would have thought it possible, but I hear her. It's going to cost a bundle to get there and back to the mainland, and if you're going to be there for an extended stay, there isn't a hell of alot to do.
So I'm open to suggestions. I am looking for big, wide open space. I want some beauty, no more big cities for a bit. Something rural and beautiful. A porch, a book. I need a vacation from my vacation.
Anyone ideas?
Remember: low budget is key.
I'm not sure exactly where, but shouldn't you be going to the South and see the Voodoo they do there? New Orleans, Voodoo capital, is apparently not quite recovered from the hurricanes, but perhaps still worth the trip. It is called the Big Easy, but probably doesn't quite meet your desire for beauty.
ReplyDeleteAu contraire! New Orleans is beauty, the very definition. And crumbling and soggy and regal and flyblown. And drinky, very drinky. And musical, the most musical city in America, no competition anywhere. But it is a city. Snowbirds, as they are known, like Florida. Lots of warm sunshine and easy livin' on the Gulf Coast, layin' back with the rednecks and fishermen. The surf communities of Southern CA are cool too, not uptight Orange County but way south, weird little escapist places like Leucadia.
ReplyDeleteHmm thanks Arthur...
ReplyDeleteLeucadia. Will look it up immediately!
